Company background
König+Neurath AG is based in Karben, just outside Frankfurt am Main. The company is one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of office furniture. It can provide a “one stop shop”: desking, seating, storage and Horizonte partitioning. As the German office furniture market went into into a three-year slump such as had never been experienced before, the family-owned business reacted with a step-by-step restructuring. In addition to redundancies, this included a greater concentration of production in Karben, where 80,000 sq.m. (860,000 sq.ft.) of manufacturing space is available.
The production of such ranges as executive furniture, conference furniture and room systems was transferrred to Karben from other factories. With a total payroll of some 1,000 people, the company manufactures in Karben, in Weissensee (near Erfurt) and in Saarwellingen. With this restructuring, König+Neurath took the decisions required by developments in the industry, and put the company back on a stable basis with a positive future.
More topical than ever: König+Neurath coined the phrase “the office as living space”
König+Neurath has on many occasions given a lead to the office furniture industry in the development of an ergonomic and future-proof “office as living space”. This motto, created many years ago, is more topical than ever. With a stated commitment to putting the human being at the centre of all planning, König+Neurath laid the foundations of the current requirement to combine ergonomics and design with function. At the same time, everyone recognises that a good workstation and a good office environment are great motivators, and that employee productivity is enhanced by them. The precept is reflected in all of the company’s products. Single workstation or cluster, desk-sharing or room-sharing, or the ground-breaking Standby-Office: all products from K+N show the same synthesis of human and organisational requirements.
From Economy Class to the Top Office
König+Neurath’s success is based on the supply of a wide range of flexible and mobile solutions for the office environment, providing best use of space and allowing for easy reconfiguration. Last year the company launched an Economy Class product which provides a multitude of solutions in the lower price segment. The whole range gives the designer solutions for any modern office lay-out, from Economy Class to the Top Office.
Unique portfolio of services
Over the last twenty years, to complement its full product range, König+Neurath has developed a services package which has been particularly relevant to “major accounts” type business. This package covers consultancy and planning, project management of the delivery and installation, and an effective after-sales service. Disposal of old furniture and the provision of leasing options round off the package. In cooperation with 250 professional dealers in Germany and abroad, this package is tailored to individual customer requirements. And the company stays close to its customers via the showrooms and advice centres in Karben (near Frankfurt am Main), Düsseldorf, Munich, Hamburg and Berlin.
Greater focus on international strategy
In European markets, König+Neurath is well represented by subsidiary companies and by an extensive network of professional dealers. Overseas markets in North America, Asia and Australia are covered by licence partners for the different product groups. König+Neurath’s seating ranges have enjoyed good growth in this area.
The positive trend in export markets will be encouraged by further development of the company’s international strategy. Attention will be focused on the developing sales structure in Europe.
